It was all right, really. That was what Platina continued to tell herself in the wake of her loneliness around Sinnoh. She had been busy with her many apprenticeships (as a researcher with her Mother, helping the Professor with her Father and assisting Looker in the International Police) but that didn't entirely make it what she wanted it to be. The young lady sat, perched on a bench with her legs crossed elegantly as she poured over documents pertaining to rare information she had been given. It was funny, really, that she would be working even when she had time off. It was really at the point where even her off-days were spent working simply because she had not spent a large portion of time with her friends.
They were probably equally as busy - at least, that was what she told herself as she folded the file closed and looked up towards the sky. Perhaps she was assuming too quickly. She had not had time to check on her friends, and she was being her own worst enemy if she excluded them to the point where she lost them. Her eyes closed softly, long eyelashes meeting her cheeks as she did so. Letting out a puff of air, she sighed. Things had to change, she had to make more of an effort. She definitely, definitely had to make more of an effort.
Fiddling idly with her scarf, she stood and dusted herself off, making certain that she looked prim and proper as she tucked the file beneath her arm and began to walk. Though she doubted that Diamond or Pearl might come stumbling in towards her, she could at least say that she might find someone if she was moving, rather than staying still and looking unwelcoming on a park bench. Her steps were almost silent in the gravel path, and the afternoon sun was prickling at her skin. At least it was a nice day, she could give herself that nod to good fortune if nothing else. She had been so caught up in work that she hadn't even enjoyed the sunshine in quite some time. The sun and its feeling gave her pause to remember the gift she had received from Gardenia, a sweet Cherrim who was capable of lighting up her days when she bloomed. She released the small floral pokemon from her pokeball and gave her a smile. Platina bent at the knees, looking directly at the tiny Pokemon. "Though Pearl and Diamond are missing at this time, perhaps you and I can enjoy the company of one another? I am certain that you will enjoy the sunlight." She cooed, petting the petals of her little friend as they began to expand in the sunlight.

It had been a while since he was in Sinnoh. It wasn't he didn't like the region, it was rather quite and peaceful, but he was normally busy traveling to the bigger cities in the world. It had been a while since he traveled to a small town, like Celestic Town. Although he was more of a big city guy, he had to admit that this place had a sort of rustic charm to it.
He could feel something rattling in his bag. Knowing his pokemon, he figured it was Etoile. He caught her in an country area like this, but it the Unova region. Although it wasn't home, she was always excited when they came to areas like this, hoping that they would run into pokemon like herself.
She couldn't contain herself any longer, and burst from her pokeball. A flash of red light shined from an open zipper in J.d.'s bag, and the Lilligant materialized beside him with a large smile on her face. < Oh what a glorious day! > She jumped up and down excitedly, clapping her hands together. "I figured you'd be excited." J.d. said, rubbing the back of his head.
Etoile nodded excitedly. She was beginning to like the big cities that her trainer frequented, but she loved returning to the beauty of nature that reminded her of her home. She took off, busying herself picking flowers and admiring the trees and blue skies. J.d. smiled, and figured that his other pokemon might as well enjoy the area as well.
He reached into his bag, pulling out three pokeballs. J.d. released his other two pokemon, Roll and Palude, onto the grassy field. He looked at the third pokeball with a bit of anxiety. "Will he be okay out here..?" He thought for a moment, but then grinned. Of course he would be okay, there was nothing here that would set off his final pokemon.
He released his final pokemon, Espada, onto the grassy field. His pokemon went immediately to frolicking, while Etoile told stories of her home, and told them about the various flowers. J.d. turned his attention to a nearby park bench, where he hadn't realized someone sat.
She seemed rather busy, not paying much attention to her own Cherrim. He approached her nonetheless. "Hello, do you mind if I sit here?" He asked.

Her Cherrim had noticed J.d's presence before she herself had, Platina was so very focused on the floral Pokemon as it chirped with glee in the sun. She had almost, almost let a true and honest smile on her lips before she had tucked it away to hide as the little petal pointed upwards and J.d spoke.
The heiress turned to look at him with a slightly confused gaze, metal-sheened eyes blinking for a moment. "Oh, I do not mind. Please feel free to join me. Cherrim and I are just enjoying the sunlight for now." She replied softly, moving a little ways along and nodding so that he could sit beside her.
Platina was certainly not used to the company of strangers. She had been raised in her home, and she had really only a few friends - and some closer acquaintances - so she was mildly stunned for words as she waited for something to happen. How was she supposed to react? When Pearl and Diamond were around they would often keep the dialogue going, and they were the ones who made her smile - even laugh - with their jokes.
She still hadn't quite got the hang of smiling just yet.
"It is a lovely day oiut. Are those all your Pokemon? They seem to be enjoying it too. They do seem to like the light." She spoke, quietly but clearly as she flattened out her skirt and straightened her back, not wanting to appear anything but ladylike in someone elses presence. She was not used to how to react, she should have been, but she was not. She had been spending far too much time on her own.
Diamond and Pearl would definitely scold her.
Trying hard to remember the common manners her friends had taught her for when she was dealing with people outside of high society, she offered her hand delicately to the newcomer, looking him in the eyes and stating, somewhat quickly, "My name is Platina." Perhaps she was talking too much. After all, he'd only asked to sit down, not to know her life story.

It was a small question, but it seemed to throw her off a bit. ”Oh, I do not mind. Please feel free to join me. Cherrim and I are just enjoying the sunlight for now.” J.d nodded, allowing the girl to slide over first before sitting down next to her. There was an awkward silence at this point, J.d wondered if she maybe felt a little uncomfortable about him sitting next to her. He cringed inside, it'd been quite a while since he had a real conversation with someone let alone someone of another gender.
He was prepared with one of his many romance novels in his bag to read, but decided against doing so in the presence of a female. Reading these were considered so uncool by people his age, well by anyone really. ”Well uh..--” ”It is a lovely day out. Are those all your pokémon? They seem to be enjoying it too. They do seem to like the light.” J.d, unable to find a coherent sentence, simply nodded in agreement. He looked out to his pokémon, Roll and Palude were doing the usual fighting, Etoile was having the most fun, as expected. Espada was becoming a dress-up doll to Etoile, wearing the numerous flower necklaces she designed.
He smiled, they really were enjoying the environment. He turned back to the girl, taking a look at her Cherrim. ”My name is Platina.” J.d cringed inwardly, he still hadn't thought of anything to say, yet. He didn't want to seem boring, and uninteresting he had to say something, ANYTHING. ”My name is J.d, nice to meet you.” He said, shaking her hand. The first thing that came to mind was that it was very soft. He blushed a little, and quickly pulled his hand away. J.d's attention shifted to her grass-type. It seemed pretty cheerful. ”Your Cherrim seems pretty happy, how long have you had it?” He asked. J.d doubted he seemed very interesting at this point, but he hoped a conversation would somehow blossom from this.

Perhaps she was being awkward? It was not unlikely for the girl to have made someone feel uncomfortable around her and though she was not the master of emotion (her dear friend Diamond was definitely focused on that aspect of the trio) she could somewhat sense that JD wasn't quite at his most easy around her. He had withdrawn his hand from their shake quite quickly. Perhaps she was being too prim? Sitting up too straight and appearing too formal. All of these thoughts rushed through her mind, and Platina reached down to pick up her Cherrim from the ground, resting the petal pokemon on her knee as she turned and let out a soft breath.
"It is nice to meet you too, J.d. I have had Cherrim for quite some time. She was a gift from the gym leader Gardenia a few years ago, when I was--" The heiress stopped herself, mildly unsure how to continue. She did not want to brag, as she knew that it was rude to talk of one's own accomplishments. "Helping with a problem." She managed to finish instead, lips curled upwards just a tad as the Pokemon looked over at J.d, seemingly entranced with something on his face.
Deciding to use the thing she had the best control over - her knowledge - to try and make some sort of conversation. She had initiated. He probably hadn't wanted to speak at all and there she went, attempting to force people and being bossy, the way Pearl and Diamond had had to deal with when she had believed them her bodyguards. "Did you know that Celestic is considered one of the most special towns in Sinnoh due to the myths and beliefs that the people here possess? They are devout believers in the legendary Pokemon, and most believe without even truly having seen or felt anything, just knowing in their hearts."
She closed her eyes, leaning back on the bench as the Cherrim reached out and touched J.d's arm, Platina distracted by her own story as she was momentarily lost in thought. "I like to come back to this town, just now and then, to experience the feelings of true connection to those Pokemon, that you do not feel elsewhere. Have you ever seen, or felt the presence of a Legendary Pokemon? They are quite awe striking."
There, that would definitely have to be a better conversation starter than her name. At least that way she didn't feel so bad about having started a conversation that she had nowhere to take. Sometimes she could be dreadfully thoughtless. She truly hoped she wasn't making him feel too uncomfortable. Relaxing her shoulders to attempt to make herself appear more friendly, she offered J.d a slight turning up of the lips - not quite a smile, but enough that she was not frowning by any means.

J.d wondered if the girl noticed how nervous he was, but the way she carried on with the conversation assured him otherwise, it was either that or she just didn't mention it. Either way, he was glad she didn't, although he hoped more that she hadn't noticed. She lifted her Cherrim onto her lap, allowing him to get a better look at the blossomed pokémon. ”It is nice to meet you too, J.d I have had Cherrim for quite some time. She was a gift from the gym leader Gardenia a few years ago, when I was.. helping with a problem.” He offered a warm smile to Platina.
He didn't really have any close ties with any gym leaders in any of the regions. It was a shame, he didn't really have the time to visit people and make friends. He was more interested in going out and seeing the sights before focusing on working on his main ambition in life, becoming a member of the elite four. It was a goal that could wait, for now. ”Did you know that Celestic is considered one of the most special towns in Sinnoh due to the myths and beliefs that the people here possess? They are devout believers in the legendary Pokemon, and most believe without even truly having seen or felt anything, just knowing in their hearts.” J.d was pretty impressed, this girl, Platina, was very knowledgeable about this town.
Maybe she knew lots about this entire region, which was understandable if she was native to Sinnoh. He was at a loss for words now 'That's cool' didn't really sound like someone something would say if they were interested by information like that. ”You seem to know a lot about Sinnoh, I'm guessing you've lived here for quite a while, huh?” J.d sighed, relaxing a bit. He was feeling a bit more at ease watching her relax. ”I'm not really one to stick around one place for too long, I like to travel and see all there is to see.”

Platina was rather honoured as the boy beside her gave her a smile - something that definitely reminded her of her friends and how open they were with their emotions. She had to learn to be moreso herself, so that she didn't come off as rude or unfeeling. It was one of the few things that she did not appreciate about "being a lady". The young heiress nodded slowly as she thought about the few friends she had made in the region, and the different gyms she had visited - as well as the different people she had come to know better than she ever would have expected.
A faint tinge of pink flashed up on Platina's cheeks as he mentioned her knowledge of the region. She had, of course, lived in Sinnoh her whole life - even if she had travelled plenty due to her parents' research and the family business. But most of what she knew came from books and learning, hours spent pouring over tomes. "I have lived in Sinnoh my whole life, yes. I have travelled around myself, but I completed the gym challenge here in Sinnoh a few years back. Gardenia, Candice and Maylene are all people I consider.. friends." She nodded once, petting at the Pokemon who had been given as a gift.
"Sinnoh is a beautiful place, should you choose to explore it. You will find this is the town with the most religious base, but we are a very cultural region, and there is much to learn should you ever be interested. I have many books on the different towns and different festivals we hold here. They are all quite entertaining." She let out a soft breath as she noticed his own easing tension.
"If you are not from Sinnoh, and are merely travelling here, do you mind if I ask where you are from? It it always a pleasure to meet someone from outside of my home region. I believe it is lovely to share knowledge between places." Sometimes she focused a little too much on her speciality, and not enough on her weaknesses.

Things seemed to be going much smoother now. J.d's attention shifted to his pokémon for a moment, then back to Platina. He found her to be quite attractive, actually. Though this wasn't one of his romance novels, he wasn't meeting the love of his life or anything. She was just a cute girl he was talking to on his way through Celestic town. He didn't really imagine ever seeing her again once they parted ways. ”I have lived in Sinnoh my whole life, yes. I have travelled around myself, but I completed the gym challenge here in Sinnoh a few years back. Gardenia, Candice and Maylene are all people I consider.. friends.” J.d admired Platina. He never really had that many friends, even then, they were more like acquaintances that he encountered one or two times, then never saw again. His only real friends in this world were his pokémon.
She went on, explaining a bit about the region, its culture, and the people in it. ”If you are not from Sinnoh, and are merely travelling here, do you mind if I ask where you are from? It it always a pleasure to meet someone from outside of my home region. I believe it is lovely to share knowledge between places.” J.d cringed inwardly once more. He was native to the Johto region, but he hadn't really stuck around long enough to learn much.
He was born on a poor farm, something that he never told anyone. J.d tried thinking about his own home, and the culture, but he was at a loss. He turned a bright red as he thought. ”Uhmm, well you see,”
[/b] He struggled with his words for a moment. Why was he getting all tongue tied around this girl? ”I left home at a young age, before I could really experience the region. So I don't know much.”[/b] He fiinally spat it out. He was somewhat embarrassed, but it was all over now. J.d turned his gaze back over to his pokémon, watching them and their strange shenanigans.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/justify][/size] 361 words

As much as Platina was unused to talking to strangers, she found the slight awkwardness of her new acquaintance somewhat endearing. He was quite nervous which she could relate to, and he spoke in a way that felt familiar to her, though she couldn't quite put her finger on the similarity with the little they'd talked. She felt more comfortable the more she talked, and you could tell simply by her demeanor and the cuddling and petting of the Pokemon in her arms that she was now quite content.
A slight breeze picked up, pushing some of her hair out of place and she gently tucked the strands back over her shoulder where they belonged, offering more of a smile to her companion. His voice was what had turned her away from her question, feeling slightly embarrassed to have asked so openly. She had to learn to let people offer information freely, rather than seeking it out. "I am sorry to have asked, I have made you uncomfortable. I do not mean to pry." She instead turned to the Lilligant frolicking about in the flowers.
"Your Lilligant is also very happy looking. Have you and your team been training very long together?" This was a safer question, she assumed, as it circulated about something he was showing openly. "My team has not changed since I completed the League Challenge here in Sinnoh. I could not bare the thought of switching them."

There was an awkward pause after he answered. He squirmed on the inside, ”Well, that's one way to make yourself seem boring,” A small breeze picked up, and the girl readjusted her hair. J.d sighed, he was a bit embarrassed, but the girl's smile was reassuring. So, what now?
Platina finally spoke ”I am sorry to have asked, I have made you uncomfortable. I do not mean to pry.”
”Oh no, you're not prying at all. I just didn't really know how to answer that question.” J.d replied.
Platina's attention shifted to his pokemon out in the distance. He didn't see Palude and Roll at this point, but he figured that they were just messing around elsewhere. Etoile, and thankfully, Espada were in view however. J.d noted how happy Etoile was today. Well, she was always happy, but she seemed a bit more.. upbeat today.
"Your Lilligant is also very happy looking. Have you and your team been training very long together?"
J.d looked to Platina and nodded. ”Yeah, her name is Etoile. She's the most recent pokemon I caught, and even then she's been on my team for a few months now.”
[/b] The dark haired beauty replied. "My team has not changed since I completed the League Challenge here in Sinnoh. I could not bare the thought of switching them." J.d nodded, traveling wasn't for everyone. He had come across a few people like her, who chose to remain in one region as supposed to traveling around the world, like he. He wondered what it was like, for people to stay stuck in one place like this. Sure, it was pretty big, but compared to all that was out there in the world, it was just a grassy rock in the water. Though, the people here seem really happy. He sighed, maybe he was missing out on something here. He then thought about the league challenges, and his status. He sighed, he'd been so busy traveling, he still hadn't even challenged a gym yet. ”Hey Platina, what do you plan on doing now? You've completed the gym challenge, so now what?” He wondered what other people thought about life. To him there was just the league challenge, defeating the champion, joining the elite four. He still had a lot of work to do before he got there. Heck, Palude and Roll hadn't even evolved once yet. Though, he didn't really rush them, he knew they would when the right time came.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/justify][/size] 427 words

Something clicked in Platina's brain. Though he looked to be at least as old as she, he had not been travelling as long as the young heiress had. Not even nearly. She had been travelling since she was only twelve years old, when she had trekked her way up the mountain - the trip that everyone who came of age in her family had to make. Briefly and somewhat nostalgically, she touched the brooch on her scarf and turned instead to the distance, where she could see Mt. Coronet, the place that had been her destination.
"You have developed a good bond for such a short time. I hope that your companionship only grows with age." Platina breathed, her voice low and warm. She definitely believed that this boy beside her cared for his pokemon. that was important to her. "Etoile.. that means something. The lead dancer, no?" Though her face was still quite plain, there was a warmth in her eyes. "It is a very fitting name."
Finally, the heiress let her hands rest in her lap, her small Cherrim hopping off the bench to go and laze in the beams from the sunlight (Platina quietly hoped she did not over charge her solar powers and shoot someone by accident). His next question took her slightly off guard, and it was then that she realised that he truly had no idea of who she was.
Flashbacks flew around her eyes, of Pearl and Diamond and the fact that they had not known her family. But she had saved Sinnoh since then, and her name had been plastered on that of the family businesses. "What will I do? I have many options, all of which take up much of my time. I will continue to learn my family business, and make certain to keep our hotel chain afloat. I also wish to continue assisting my mother and her research into the Unown. I would choose to continue to help Looker in his investigations. I have a great many windows of opportunity, it seems." This time, she smiled genuinely, allowing the softest of laughs out from her throat.
"I have been all over the world to meet my Seniors, though. And that is my greatest dream. To stay friends with the other Pokedex Holders. They have much they can teach me, and hopefully there are some things I may teach them."

After a moment of looking across the grassy area, he realized that the dysfunctional duo, Palude and Roll, were missing. At first, he was a bit worried, but the more he thought about it, the more he realized that they were going to be fine. His real worry was if Espada got out of control. If that were to happen he'd need more than Etoile to subdue the butterfree. ”They should be fine, they're probably just running around elsewhere.”
Meanwhile, Platina looked off into the distance for a moment before continuing. ”You have developed a good bond for such a short time. I hope that your companionship only grows with age.” J.d nodded, he imagined that she'd been traveling for quite some time now if she completed the Sinnoh gym challenge. ”Etoile.. that means something. The lead dancer, no?” He nodded once more, recalling that he named it after a romance novel centered around a French-Canadian ballet dancer, it was titled 'Etoile'.
J.d listened as the girl went over her seemingly endless options, though it seemed like she was still deciding what to do. He was impressed even moreso by this girl. She must have been traveling a lot longer than he had. His dream was to join the ranks of the elite four, but he still hadn't even gotten a single gym badge yet. Slightly ashamed by his lack of ambition, he blushed a little.
”W-wow, that's a lot,” He replied. ”You must have started your journey at a really young age.”
[/b] Trainers like her reminded him of how inferior he really was. J.d sighed, embarrassed.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/justify][/size] 281 words

Platina watched her companion and wondered if perhaps she was intimidating now that he had heard about her many goals in life. She folded her hand over the top of one another, looking down at them as he spoke. "I was very young when I started my journey, it is a tradition of my family to make a trek to the peak of Mount Coronet so that you may make your own token. I created a brooch."
She looked up at him, wondering if he was still listening, "I was twelve when I completed my journey. It was part of my trip to becoming an adult. I do not think I would be the same person if I had not made the trip. But it is not for everyone, and I was training from a young age and studying to do so." Platina felt bad, she had caused her new companion to stutter, and she reached out to put a hand gently on his arm. "You have a close bond with your Pokemon early into your relationship, there is nothing wrong with that."
She dropped her hand away, knowing that a lot of people did not enjoy the physical contact - for a long while she had been one of them, and she still wasn't quite sure about all aspects of it - and offered another small smile his way. "I do not know which of these I want to do, and that is difficult too. I have too many choices and I know that to do all would be too much."
The heiress breathed out slowly, glancing down at the document she had been flipping through not so long ago. "I wish I could remain a hero and make my business successful, whilst helping my mother and Professor Rowand do their research. All of this is too much, though, so I have to choose one or two. It is.. somewhat frustrating."
