Perhaps it wasn't her best idea to travel to Slateport City, especially because of the fact it's practically surrounded by the ocean. She does her best to avoid the large bodies of water and stay in the main area of the city where the solid ground is.
Truthfully, the only reason she's in Slateport is because someone called earlier in the day to request her services. Roseline happily obliged for some quick cash. She didn't think it'd be this hard to find a simple Minun in Slateport.
Roseline sighs as she leans against Sal before sliding down his scaley body and finding herself on the grass. She tugs up some grass before letting it fly off in the wind. She sighs heavily and turns Gon to her left.
"Why is this so difficult." She says, the Pokémon chatters a few times before going silent. "I didn't think this would require much work."
Roseline holds out her arm and Gon pulls her up to her feet. She stretches a bit before continuing to walk around. Sal flies into the air to survey from above while Gon continues to walk around with her. Aria is to her right, while the rest of her Pokémon are safely tucked away in their Pokéballs.
Sal roars causing Roseline to look up, he nudges his head in a direction and Roseline follows to find a bush. It's moving, and the moment she decides to carefully approach it, a little Plusle hops out. Roseline resists the urge to give up right then and there. never stop climbing. never become stagnant. never become compliant with what you are. no one is perfect, not even the brilliant champion of kanto. red knows this and mount silver alone is not enough for him to refine his skills. instead, he's in hoenn, transversing the various battle tents that dot the region as he prepares for a vacation to the battle frontier. slateport houses just one of these elusive tents and red can't wait to meet the challenge.
but red is never one to simply arrive at his destination. as both a traveler and dex holder he can't help but want to venture into slateport's wilderness. rumor has it that hoenn sports two electric pokemon that bare a striking resemblance to his pika. with the pikachu safely nestled onto his shoulders, he searches, keeping an eye out for any signs of life.
from the other side of a thicket of brush, red hears the rustling of a pokemon appearing. with his vision obscured by the thick vegetation he can make little of roseline until he leaps out from behind it. his eyes settle onto the plusle at first and then travels to meet with hers.
"... oh."

"What the fuck." Is the first thing to come out of her mouth when a person comes out of the bush after the Plusle.
First the Plusle, now a human being, Arceus is starting to test her tolerance. She swears upon it in her mind.
To her right, Aria is standing slightly closer to her than previously, while Gon is in an outright fighting position. Sal is circling overhead looking less than pleased. Roseline doesn't move to calm her Pokémon from their stances. She doesn't really care at this point.
Though, the boy in front of her does look incredibly familiar. She feels like she's seen him once or twice but can't quite put her finger on it. She looks him up and down, surveying him and then it clicks.
He's champion of the Kanto region. Slightly older than she though he'd be, but recognizable. She beats herself up for no realizing sooner.
"You're Red from Kanto right?" She says. "What the hell are you doing in Hoenn?"
Roseline can't say she isn't surprised. Wasn't he supposed to be at the top of that mountain in the Kanto reigon? Why the fuck was he in the Hoenn region, better, why the hell was he in the bushes in the Hoenn region rather than on the streets.
Sal lands behind Roseline with a thump and she ignores him to continue eyeing the Kanto champion in front of her. the vulgarity is the first thing to catch him by surprise. the next is the pokemon that seem to loom over her. both seem to be intimidating through their own rights but that does little more than excite him. unfamiliar pokemon always prove to be a pleasure to battle, making his pokedex little more than void unless the situation calls for it.
"i am," he answers, wincing from her distasteful way of questioning him. "i'm here to challenge the battle tents! i heard hoenn is full of strong trainers so i'm here to test myself."
he can hear pika crackling with electricity as the tiny mouse tries to make up for his small stature. a confident smirk lines red's eager face as he gestures to the empty patch of grass in front of them. "your pokemon seem strong. if you know who i am then there's only one thing to do." it almost seems unfair to pit a meager pikachu against such large dragon pokemon but red has faith. they've been through much worse. after all, this is just a friendly battle, right?

"Battle tents, right." She repeats.
It makes sense to her, a champion looking for challengers. Challengers in another region doesn't make sense to her though. She debates for a second on bringing up the point, before giving up. She's not that interested in this man and his ways. He's a champion, he's ambitious, he's achieved his goal.
Roseline leaves it at that because not everyone is as bored as she is. Not everyone is as jaded as she is because there are driven people out there who strive for their goals. She lets her thoughts go for a second to return to the conversation.
Her ears don't pick up the sound of crackling electricity, but she doesn't need to hear it to understand what he's getting at. She sighs deeply, and massages her temples. Trainers and their damned battles is all she can think right now.
"I'm not a trainer, I'm a breeder." She states. "I refuse to battle."
Has anyone ever rejected a battle from a champion before? Roseline assumes she can't be the only person who has done it. She's probably one of the few who has done it. "oh."
you can hear the disappointment in his voice. her own explanation doesn't make much sense to him since gold, known for being a hatcher, is more than adept at battling. even so, he won't force it upon her. at least her pokemon look strong. must have something to do with breeding, right?
"but you're pokemon look strong and well raised. were they specifically bred or...?"
rejection isn't new but red rarely takes it well. his mind already too centered around pokemon and all he can do is inquire. he has battling on the brain and everything else somehow ends up revolving around it. at least now he can associate it with breeding, kind of. doesn't hurt to learn about other specialties.

Roseline resists the urge to roll her eyes at the disappointment in his voice when he replies. She raises an eyebrow at his question though. Prior to this, she never would have thought a champion would have any interest in anything aside from battling, and minor hobbies. Not many people ask her about her Pokémon, not even the people who request from her.
It's slightly odd for her to be asked about it, but it's not something that puts her too off-balance.
"None of my Pokémon have been bred, they were all caught. Aside from one, who was sent to me as a gift." She explains. "I don't breed anything half-done. Weak Pokémon breed weak Pokémon, strong Pokémon breed strong Pokémon. It's as simple as that."
Roseline's eyes travel to the Pikachu Red has out. It's clearly well-taken care of and it obviously loves it's master very much. Red is probably less of a master to it and more of a friend. Roseline finds herself a little jealous, but the only reason her bonds aren't as strong with some of her Pokémon is because she hasn't taken the time to do so. She's got no one to blame but herself, she realises that.
"You're Pikachu seems to like you quite a lot." She says. "A good relationship with their trainer is the only thing my Pokémon lack." did he say something wrong? red can only assume so much from her reaction. maybe that's just how she is. he won't let it bother him. instead, he listens to her explanation, again, not quite too sure what to make of it. if they weren't bred then they were caught. but who had caught them? her? family or friends? he decided against prying, somewhat satisfied with her answer.
"i see."
something about her statement bothers him. theoretically, she's correct. a high caliber should, in most circumstances, breed into another high caliber pokemon but to have them reduced to simple terms bothers him. pokemon are more than simple creatures that are "strong" or "weak". they're living beings. it's about the bond between the trainer and pokemon that determines their strength.
"we've been through a lot."
as if on cue, red starts nuzzling against the smaller pokemon. pika, who had just been radiating electricity, cuddles against him without causing any harm.
"that's the most important part of being a team with your pokemon. you should find some time to do so. i'm sure you'll learn just as much from them as they do from you."

"I can see that." She says.
Really, she can't, but she can nothing but assume with how affectionate his Pikachu was being.
"Words of a wise man are wasted on me." She says. "I don't bond with my Pokémon for a reason. I don't care."
For a second, Roseline thinks her answer is a bit vague. She doesn't particularly care to go into extreme depth of backstory, but she figures a little more explanation would work well to answer lingering questions he may have about her careless-ness.
"I love my Pokémon, don't get me wrong. I've never had an interest with 'bonding' with them." She says. "I've never had an interest in bonding with anything really. Sort of a life choice to me."
Aria nudges Roseline's hand with her head and Roseline pats her head softly. The Altaria smiles, enjoying the affection. Roseline turns her attention back to Red.
"You probably don't understand, most don't, but my Pokémon do, and that's who I need to understand." She says. "huh?"
he's taken back by her wild statements. she doesn't care? even though he should, he doesn't judge her for it. at least she's honest. but to think a trainer like that exist. it bewilders him. at least until he sees the pokemon respond.
"isn't that a bond inside of itself? it doesn't matter if it isn't the regular relationship people have with their pokemon. as long as you and your pokemon understand each other then there's a bond, no matter how different it may be."

Roseline shrugs.
Perhaps it's a bond, perhaps it isn't. It depends on the way you define the word bond. It's defined different ways, and most people who hear about Roseline neglecting spending time with her Pokémon privately don't think they've got a bond.
"Perhaps it is a bond, perhaps it isn't. Depends on who I'm talking to and the way they interpret the word bond." She says.
Aria nips at Roseline's clothing, reminding her that they've got a job to do. Roseline hums in acknowledgement before turning her attention to Red. "I can show you to the battle tent in Slateport before I have to find the rogue Minun I was looking for."

"i think it is. as long as you and your pokemon are happy."
it brings out a smile in red and he can't help but cheese.
"i'll be find. i've been to a lot of places so i think i can find the tent on my own. but what about this minun?"
without waiting for an answer, he pulls out his pokedex. he enters a few keys before the devices turns on, beeping before spewing out minun's entry. "minun, the cheering pokemon. minun is more concerned about cheering on its partners than its own safety. it shorts out the electricity in its body to create brilliant showers of spark to cheer on its teammates."
red glances back at the plusle and his pokedex. they're similar but not quite the same pokemon. how odd.
"were you just going to wander around until you find it or did you have a way of luring one out?"

Roseline resists the urge to sigh, she should've expected this. She should've kept her mouth shut and not said anything about the Minun. She doesn't need people offering to help, but she doesn't want to be a bitch. Well, she doesn't really give a fuck, but you can't just turn down help from a champion. You can't say no to a successful person and it almost makes her cringe.
"Sal was in the sky staking out the area for any Pokémon running loose or out of place items." She explains as Sal launches himself towards the sky to re-take his post. "It's mostly just wandering and hoping."
She glances towards the Plusle who is just sitting on the ground not doing anything. She isn't particularly mad at the Plusle, but she's not exactly to have met it. It just got her hopes up before ruining them once again. Upside is she got to meet Red. He isn't really all that interesting to her. "sal?"
instinctively, his eyes dart onto the ascending dragon, narrowing as he tries to size up the large beast. he can only assume so much without dabbling into some whimsical nonsense. either way the salamence seems more than capable of spotting any scrambling critters. seems a bit like overkill should she pit it against the much smaller minum.
"i see."
his vision follows roseline's, trailing back to the plusle who seems to be ignoring the two of them. "and what do you plan to do with this pokemon?" it's been a while since red's last captured a pokemon but this one seems too much like pika to be worth the effort.
